Managing research data isn’t one-size-fits-all. Beth Feingold, PhD, MPH, and her team at the University at Albany’s School of Public Health launched the RIOIMAS study to assess cardiometabolic risks in the Peruvian Amazon. They faced unique data challenges, including paper-based data capture, translation needs, and conducting research in remote locations.

How DFnet Supported the RIOIMAS Study

• Bridging Paper to Digital Data Capture
  To maintain accuracy and streamline the transition from paper to digital, DFnet supplied paper CRFs in both English and Spanish. The team also developed the database variables, edit checks, and data collection framework to ensure accurate and efficient data capture.
• Localized Training & Spanish Translation
  With Spanish-speaking field staff, localization was essential. Using client-provided text, DFnet translated the CRFs into Spanish and incorporated Spanish text into the edit checks, enabling the site to interpret data requests without the need for an interpreter. To further support adoption, DFdiscover training videos were also translated into Spanish, ensuring a seamless learning experience for the staff.
• Database Setup & Ongoing Support
  A well-structured database is critical for managing study data effectively. DFnet set up and thoroughly tested the database before releasing it to the client for data management. The DFnet Data Manager maintained regular communication with the client to ensure smooth data collection and accurate entry into the database.
